From a roadside inn dating back to the times of Maria Theresa to a popular restaurant by Janko Kráľ Park.
16th – 17th century
The birth of Petržalka on the Enger-Au island

On the island of Enger-Au (present-day Petržalka), the first foundations of settlement were established – farming homesteads, a church, forester’s lodges, and an important route that later became the Vienna Road.

18th century
The first roadside inn near Bratislava

During the reign of Maria Theresa, a roadside inn was established in Petržalka, where travelers could find accommodation, meals, and care for their horses.

1759
First mention of the inn – Carl Turbilio

The inn was managed by Carl Turbilio, who paid the town 20 gulden annually. It is recorded on Marquart’s plan from 1765.

1775
Inn in the heart of the new park

After the regulation of the Danube, a public park was established next to the inn, further increasing its importance.

1805 – 1809
The Napoleonic Wars in Petržalka

French troops occupied Petržalka. After the peace treaty was signed in Vienna, life returned to normal, and the inn continued its operation.

1818 – 1821
The inn expands – 11 windows facing the Danube

Owner Andreas Rosins significantly enlarges the building; its new form is documented on the plan from 1820.

1826
English Park and the Arena by the Inn

An arena was added on the riverbank, and the park’s style changed to an "English" one – a freer, more natural appearance.

1840
Golden era of recreation – Ján Alkhofer

The inn’s owner pays the town 300 florins and 15 kreuzers quarterly. The inn serves as the center of recreation for the residents of Bratislava.

1860 - 1880
Stagecoach from the inn to Hainburg

Every Saturday, a stagecoach departs from the inn to Hainburg. The inn often changes owners but remains a popular destination.

1891
The first permanent bridge over the Danube

The opening of the bridge over the Danube brings new visitors on foot and by carriage.

1894 – 1895
Ludwig Leberfinger takes over the inn

The building is officially registered and bears the name Leberfinger. A new chapter begins under this well-known name.

1900
Visit of Emperor Franz Joseph

Historical photographs capture Emperor Franz Joseph’s visit right at the inn.

1918
Uprising and restoration of the inn

During the uprising, the premises were damaged, but the inn was soon restored to its original operation.

1924
Rudolf Leberfinger leases the inn

The town extends the lease without competition – Leberfinger has managed the inn flawlessly since 1895.

1930 - 1940
Legendary dumplings and a good reputation

The Leberfinger family continues to run the inn, which has earned a great reputation. Emil Bohúň remembers the plum dumplings, and Ján Smrek recalls the "miraculous kitchen."

1996 – 1998
Restaurant restored – WEST

The WEST Theatre Civic Association completely renovates the building to its present-day form.
